Accounting and Finance Programs

Overview: Accounting is a team-oriented field that is typically divided into three sub-categories: financial/tax, auditing, and management accounting. Those who are mathematically-inclined would find comfort in this field as there is a great deal of emphasis placed on analysis involving numbers, particularly statistics and profit/loss trends.

Role: Accountants perform a wide variety of tasks from computing costs and determining profit to dealing with tax strategy among other things. Good people skills are necessary as much of this work involves negotiations with clients and other professionals. An understanding and interest in technology are also worthy traits, as more businesses are using state of the art electronic systems to prepare financial statements.

Qualifications: To begin a career in accounting or finance, an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is necessary along with a passing grade on the CPA (Certified Public Accountants) exam.
